NaNoWriMo

October 30th, 2017

Artist output, in the form of photo art, will take a huge dip starting on the 1st November as I accept once again the challenge of NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. 50,000 words in 30 days. I've done the same amount of prep work as usual (almost nothing) and changed the story I was going to write only last week. Thus, this will be a leap into the unknown (again) with a rough outline, that I hope doesn't get side track by me writing something totally unexpected.....

Flower Abstract Series 2 Completed

October 11th, 2017

The 24 artworks for Flower Abstract Series 2 are completed and all loaded to FAA. Looking through them, number 23 stands out as my favourite. To mean it appears more like a creature swimming across the page than a pressed flower. I hope you like the series, and I'll be working on the others soon.

Ghost Of Lost Souls Series 02

October 10th, 2017

Just uploaded the first four images for the Ghost Of Lost Souls Series 02 collection, and I'm feeling really happy with these. They have just the right amount of other world artistry that I'm looking for, given then a somewhat creepy feel. I woundn't want to be wandering around these places on a cold dark winters night.

New Study

October 6th, 2017

For the last several months I've been thinking about re-designing my study. The main reason for this is, is that I need more computer space / workbench / table space. So I've slowly been packing books, CD's, computers and things to the point where I'm nearly ready to rip out the carpet and start afresh.

Whats been stopping this progress though has been about 50 slides I've recently created using flowers and plant material. They all need to be scanned, several times, before I packed them away. Today I finished the last slide and along with the slides, I've also packed the scanner. No new slides now until the new study is finished...

Not to Self - Do NOT visit unexplored Garden Centres....

October 4th, 2017

Over the weekend we visited a garden centre near Bad Malente in Germany. We'd never visited it before, so it was quite a new experience. Not only did we buy more bulbs for the garden, including Crocuses, anemones, iris and tulips, we also brought some new narcissus bulbs. So, to add to my collection we now have:

Narcissus Rip van Winkle
Narcissus Raspberry Ring
Botanische Narzissen Quail
Botanische Narzissen Baby Moon
and finally, Schlitzkronige Narsissen Orangerie

These are the German names on the packaging, though I believe the English names are very similar. I'll need to confirm that.

All I've got to do now, is determine the best places to plant them ......

Narcissus

September 27th, 2017

Those of you that know me, will know that my favourite flowers are Narcissus. We have over 20 species in the garden at the moment, and I was very happy to add 'Cheerfulness' to the list today. This is a double flower bulb, with flowers that are mostly white with a hint of yellow. Flowering in mid to late spring the flowers are also fragrant. Looking forward to photographing these next year.

Strange Worlds from 2005

September 26th, 2017

Going through my slide collection, I re-discovered the Strange World slides I created in 2005. The series was called Ghost Of Lost Souls back then. The objective then was quite different from today's. Then I would scan the slides and use photoshop to cut out the parts I wanted to make composition images/artwork. Today, the slide contains the final image as well, all be it in its primary unprocessed form.

I was quite surprised to find that many of the slides from the GoLS period are suitable for today's processing as well. Looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of scanning over the next week or two.

My garden and my Strange Worlds

September 12th, 2017

Spent the day in the garden today, and collected some more flowers for my Strange Worlds and Abstract Flowers artwork. I really quite enjoy the creativity involved in making these artworks come to life. The only problem is the glue I'm using, it either makes me feel high or give me headaches, especially in the morning like today. Oh well, the sacrifices one makes for art.
